How our tools can help you
When BoMs are to be transferred from Development to Production, system boundaries are most often crossed – typically from PDM/PLM to ERP. The bill of materials then exists in both systems and forward synchronization is crucial for the robust handling and execution of changes.
The ability to see the difference between two versions of the same BoM is significantly complicated when the BoM contains many components and subassemblies. Most often, comparison is handled in Excel with the resulting challenges.
BoostPLM has developed a web-based tool for comparing two BoMs – we call it the BoM Compare Tool and it is available free of charge.
The tool is simple to use and has been developed on the basis of our many years of experience with the subject and the scenarios our customers come up with.

Our managing director wrote this post on the critical practice of revisioning drawings and 3D models in CAD and PDM systems. This traditional approach, dating back to hand-drawn revisions, often overlooks the impact on ERP and warehouse systems, emphasizing the necessity for new material numbers to ensure compatibility and process integrity.
Introducing new part numbers for design changes – FFF Rule
When engineers modify a design, they must decide between updating the original design or assigning a new part number, based on interchangeability. The Form-Fit-Function rule helps determine if designs can be swapped without issues.
